Child & Teen Trauma Therapy in Calgary

Trauma can have a profound impact on how children and teens think, feel, and relate to others. At LittleKind Psychology, each Calgary child psychologist provides compassionate, evidence-based support to help young people heal from the effects of trauma, including experiences such as abuse, accidents, attachment ruptures, loss, and traumatic grief.

One of the approaches we use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain to process distressing memories and integrate more adaptive interpretations of an experience so it becomes less overwhelming. EMDR can be highly effective in reducing symptoms such as anxiety, nightmares, intrusive memories, emotional reactivity, avoidance, and difficulties with self-esteem or relationships. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is another proven approach designed to help children and teens heal from the effects of trauma. Through a structured, supportive process, children and teens learn coping skills, process difficult experiences, and develop a healthier understanding of traumatic experiences. TF-CBT also actively involves parents or caregivers, helping them support their child's healing and strengthen their relationship.

Our Calgary child psychologists have advanced training in the use of EMDR and TF-CBT with children and teens. We tailor our approach to each child's developmental stage, often integrating play, creative expression, and parent involvement to ensure treatment feels safe, engaging, and effective. The goal is not to erase difficult experiences, but to help children and teens move forward with greater resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being.
