Frequently Asked Questions
-
It’s common for children to feel worried, have big emotions, and go through difficult phases. In many cases, these challenges are temporary and improve with time and support. However, research shows that some children benefit from additional help when concerns are more persistent, intense, or begin to interfere with daily life. If you’re not sure, reach out for a free consultation to see if counselling is the right next step for your child.
-
Every child has their own unique strengths and areas of vulnerability. However, when their difficulties are getting in the way of their ability to be successful at home, school, and with friends, it might be worth finding out more about what they need and how we can set them up for success. If you’re not sure, reach out for a free consultation and find out whether an assessment is the right next step.
-
Many families come to us seeking both an assessment to understand their child’s strengths and challenges and therapeutic support for those challenges. We are happy to work with you in determining how to begin, but typically we recommend starting with an assessment and then moving into counselling. This allows us to have the best understanding of your child possible to inform our work with them.
-
Yes! We specialize in providing comprehensive psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments to evaluate individual profiles of strength and areas of need. This includes ADHD assessments and Autism assessments, specifically the high-masking and female presentation of Autism. You can learn more about our assessment process here.
-
The first appointment is typically a parent intake session. We will meet for 60-90 minutes to discuss your child’s developmental history, strengths, and areas of need to find out how best to move forward. For your child’s first counselling session, the goal is to help them feel safe and connected, we will orient them to the therapeutic space and focus on getting to know them in whatever way feels most comfortable- through words, play, or art.
-
We believe in working collaboratively with parents and that the work we do with your child will go further when you’re actively involved. A typical session will usually include individual time with the child in addition to parent(s) time to go over what we are working on and how you can be supportive to the process.
-
Session rates are $235/hour for registered psychologists and $200/hour for registered provisional psychologists. For more information about flat-rate psychological and psychoeducational assessment fees, click here.
Payment can be made through e-transfer, credit card, or cash. We are generally not able to offer direct billing at this time, so please check with your insurance provider to ensure you have coverage.

“If the day ever came when we were able to accept ourselves and our children exactly as we and they are, then, I believe, we would have come very close to an ultimate understanding of what ‘good’ parenting means.”
